Issue Five authors Xanthi Barker and David Gill read from their stories at Cakey Muto last Thursday evening. As the sun beat down, guests beat a faster retreat down to the cellar of the cake-shop-cum-bar and, first of all, heard form David Gill, who read Cooking With Chicken. Soon after, special guest and Open Pen cohort Piers Pereira discussed his new-found fascination with Spoken Word. He talked us through his recent immersification in the medium and read the very first piece of spoken word that he has written.
After an interval of well deserved refreshments and tobacco, David Gill read from his Issue Five piece, Mother’s Day and divulged his novel-writing plan-of-action, before the patient Xanthi Barker read from her winning story Love In The Time of Ketamine, after which, Open Pen editor Sean Preston discussed the importance of young and authentic writers such as Xanthi.
Open Pen would like to thank Cakey Muto for hosting the evening, and for providing such wonderful cakes to guests on the night and indeed locals to the area on a more regular basis.
More Open Pen events are sure to follow this Summer, so keeps your peepers locked on our Twitter and Facebook.
