Issue Five was bursting with variety, and as such, we thought it only proper that ‘the other half’ of this red-faced edition was afforded equal and ample opportunity to say it, and say it out loud.
‘Open Pen Aloud: Issue Five and a Half’ takes place in the early evening of Thursday 5th July, with doors opening at 6pm (roughly; we keep things casual) and features Issue Five contributor Remie Purtill-Clarke, who will be directing a reading of her tiny play The Ice Cream Robbery of Sherkin Island. Also in attendance will be Darren Lee, whose Issue Four reading a couple of months back received such high praise that we’ve dragged him back for more. We’ve also got local failed thespian Piers Pereira presenting a new and soon to be regular segment called Filthy Fiction, a collection of some of the best/worst (depending on your Britishness) submissions of an adult nature we receive at Open Pen (and there are many), all with the express consent of the respective writers of course. On top of that, there’s probably more live reading, and certainly as much red wine as you can throw a teary-eyed strop at.
